School chaplaincy program

Chaplaincy program at Gum Flat Public School

Gum Flat Public School has just completed a submission to the Federal Government's National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program for a continuance of the Chaplaincy services for our school.

Mrs Jill Dick is employed one day per week by the Sapphire City School's Ministry Board which oversees the Chaplaincy Programs in all public schools in the Inverell District. The Board provides regular training in First Aid, Child Protection, Internet Safety, Grief Management and areas associated with mental health.

At Gum Flat Public School the Chaplain

  • assists students in their classroom learning
  • assists students to participate in fitness and play
  • organises craft and games for small groups at lunch time
  • comforts and talks to students in need
  • models positive life skills
  • provides pastoral care for individuals by request

The Chaplaincy Program has been successfully operating at Gum Flat Public School for four years and has assisted both students and teachers. Participation in the program has always been voluntary and is non-denominational. If parents and community members would like to find out more about this valuable service, please contact the school
